Lochbay Seals & Seabirds (standard)

Lochbay is designated a Special Area of Conservation for common seals so it is the perfect location for viewing them, and in the summer months their suckling pups. Hauled out and on the rocks they are easy to spot. A breeding grounds for gulls, eider duck, greylag & barnacle geese and cormorant, there is endless nesting, feeding and rearing activity to watch. Numerous other seabirds can be seen including kittiwake, common and black gulliemot, puffin and looking skyward the sea eagle. Beyond the islands in deeper water porpoise, dolphin, whales and basking shark may be spotted.

Stein – Waternish Point: Seals, Seabirds, Whale & Basking Shark (return by boat)

Lochbay is the perfect location for viewing common seals and in the summer months their suckling pups. The area is designated a Special Area of Conservation for common seals. Hauled out and on the rocks they are easy to spot. Also breeding grounds for gulls, eider duck, geese and cormorant there is endless nesting, feeding and rearing activity to watch. As we sail toward Ardmore Arches we'll encounter colonies of kittiwake, common and black gulliemot, and cormorant, while watching the skies you may see a sea eagle fishing to feed its young. Further out to sea we may encounter porpoise, dolphin and whale and closer to Waternish Point basking shark encounters are possible. Double your chances of wildlife sightings and take the return journey or alternatively stretch your legs on the Wildlife Walker: Stein – Waternish Point.
